85 years of the Donetsk region

9 Feb 1932 in Ukraine created five regions, 2 of July of the same year formed the sixth region of Donetsk, with the center in the town of Artemivsk. Its composition includes:

17 administrative-territorial units of the Donbas: Artemovskiy, Voroshilov, Gorlovsky, kadyivs'ka, Constantine, Kramatorsk, Krasnyi Luch, Luhansk, Makiivka, Mariupol, Rikovskiy, Stalinist city councils and areas Grishinskogo, Lisichansk, Rovenkovsky, Sorokin and Youth;

13 districts of Kharkiv region: Belovodskiy, Bellucci, top-Teplovskiy, Liman, Markov, milovs'kyi, Novo-Aydarsky, Novo-Pskov, Rubizhne, svatovsky, Slavic, Starobilsk and Trinity (Pokrovsky).

5 regions of Dnipropetrovsk region: Veliko Anielski, Volnovakha, Old-Karanskiy, Old-Karmanitski Old Nicholas (Volodarskiy).

July 16, 1932, the administrative center of the Donetsk region moved to Stalino.

According to the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR from June 3, 1938, the Donetsk region is divided into Stalin and Voroshilovgrad. Part of Stalin region became the city of Stalino, Artemivsk, Horlivka, Kostyantynivka, Kramatorsk, Makiyivka, Mariupol, Ordzhonikidze, Slavyansk, Chistyakova and 22 districts.

In the second half of 30 years, resulting in significant expansion of the territory of the cities of Stalino, Mariupol, Gorlovka and Makeevka, local authorities raised the question of creating districts. The Presidium of the CEC of the USSR (later the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR) allowed the application and in 1937, the districts appeared in Stalin and in 1938 – in Makeyevka, in 1939, in Mariupol and in 1941 – in Gorlovka.

During the Second world war, the territory of the region from October 1941 in September 1943, was temporarily occupied. Significant changes in the administrative-territorial division in this period did not happen, except for renaming of some settlements. After the liberation of the region restored pre-war territorial division, settlements returned to their previous names.



As of September 1, 1946 in region, there were 12 cities of regional subordination: Stalino, Artemivsk, Horlivka, debaltseve, Druzhkivka, Yenakiyevo, Konstantinovka, Kramatorsk, Makeyevka, Mariupol, Slavyansk, Chistyakov 28 locations: Avdiivka, Aleksandrovsky, amvrosievsky, Donetsk, Artemovsk, Budennovskiy, Velyka novosilka, Volnovakha, Volodarsky, Dzerzhinsk, Dobropolye, Enakievo, Kamykowski, Constantine, army, Krasnolimanskaya, Mar, Olginskaya, pervomais'kyi, Selidovsky, Slavic, Snezhnyanskiy, Starobeshevo,Starominsky, Telmanovskiy, Khartsyzsk and street.

In the years 1953-1954 in the region a new city: Dobropole, miner, Dokuchaevsk. At the same time in all districts was consolidation of rural councils. At the turn of 50-60-ies of the part of districts abolished, their territory attached to other districts.

Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated November 9, 1961, Stalin was renamed Donetsk region and the city of Stalino was renamed into Donetsk city.

Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR from December 30, 1962 in the category of cities of regional subordination is related of the city of Dzerzhinsk, Krasnoarmeysk, Snow, Khartsyzsk and Shakhtarsk. In connection with the consolidation of rural districts, instead of those that were before, formed only 9 areas: Amvrosiyivka, Artemivsk, Velyka novosilka, Volnovakha, Volodarsky, army, Mar, novoazovs'k, Slavic.

Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 4, 1965 in connection with the merger of regional industrial and regional rural Councils were created in the region 15 districts. Cities of regional subordination left Donetsk, Artemovsk, Gorlovka, Debaltsevo, Dzerzhinsk, Dobropolye, Druzhkivka, Yenakiyevo, Zhdanov, Konstantinovka, Kramatorsk, Krasnoarmeisk, Kramatorsk, Selidovo, Sloviansk, Snizhne, Khartsyzk, Torez and Shahtersk.

In December 1966, the region established 3 district: dobropil's'kyi, Pershotravnevy and Telmanovo. Increased the number of districts in the cities. In March 1967, founded the Kiev district of Donetsk and the seaside city of Zhdanov in April 1973 – Voroshilovsky of Donetsk, in November 1975 – Miners Makeyevka, in October 1980, Budennovsk city of Donetsk.

From 1976 to 1992 in the category of cities of regional subordination related Yasinovataya, Krasnyi Liman, Kirov, Dimitrov, Avdeevka, Ugledar, Zhdanivka, Dokuchaevsk and Novogrodovka.

In 2016 the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine city of Artemivsk renamed into the town of Bakhmut, Dzerzhinsk – on Toreck, Dimitrov – Mirograd, the city Krasnoarmeysk – Pokrovsk, the city Krasnyi Lyman – Lyman, a city – Torez – Chistyakova, city of Kirovskoe – Khrestivka; urban-type settlement Volodarskoye – Nikol'skoye and areas: Artemovskiy – bakhmutskaya, center on the St. Basil's, may day on Magurski, telmanovskiy – Boykovsky.
